GL Natural with Chrome Accents

This pen was handmade from the shaft of a broken Cooper SuperLite GL hockey goalie stick. This was a very difficult pen to make. The wood in this section of the stick shaft was very dry which made it very frustrating to get the shape without causing splintering and chipping. Once I got it as smooth as possible, I turned some shallow grooves into the top section. I then trimmed and inserted metallic chrome vinyl to fit the grooves and protected those with crystal clear epoxy. The pen was then finished with a variety of waxes in order to maintain that wood like feel.
All of these pens are made from repurposing the shafts of broken vintage hockey goalie sticks. The sticks are old and in many different stages of use. Occasionally the shaft wood has had to be glued back together before a pen can be turned from it. Additionally, most old sticks actually did not have solid wood shafts, rather the shaft sections were made with "multi lam" or "ply" wood. Due to the nature of these manufacturing techniques combined with age, no 2 pens are identical and quite often the wood will not fully accept stains or dyes evenly in the finishing process. Please look at the photos closely to be sure you are happy with the finish of the pen before purchasing.
